FABRIC CONSTRUCTION
  1. WOVEN FABRICS
    1. PLAIN WEAVE
      1. Weft yarn passes over and under alternate warp yarns
        1. Simplest and cheapest weave
          1. Strong, holds shape well and smooth finish
          2. TWILL WEAVE
            1. Weft goes over 2 warp yarns and under 1 (creates diagonal pattern)
              1. Stronger and drapes better than plain weave
                1. Denim
                2. SATIN WEAVE
                  1. Weft yarn goes under 4 or more warp and under 1
                    1. Delicate and can snag, doesn't resist abrasion
                      1. Long weft yarns on surface catch the light, making it shiny
                    2. KNITTED FABRICS
                      1. WEFT-KNITTED
                        1. Yarns run across fabric, interlocking loops with row underneath
                          1. Stretchy, lose shape easily
                            1. Unravels, ladders form
                              1. Made by hand/machine
                                1. Jumpers, socks, t-shirts
                                2. WARP-KNITTED
                                  1. Loops interlock vertically
                                    1. Stetchy but keep their shape
                                      1. Hard to unravel, less likely to ladder
                                        1. Made by expensive machinery
                                          1. Tights, fleeces, swimwear
                                        2. NON-WOVEN FABRICS
                                          1. BONDED FABRICS
                                            1. 'Webs' of fibres held together by heat, glue, needle-punching or stitching
                                              1. Interfacing and disposable cloths
                                              2. FELTED FABRICS
                                                1. Combining pressure, moisture and heat to interlock a mat of wool fibres
                                                  1. Carpet underlays and hats
                                                  2. Layers of fibres held together by bonding/felting
                                                    1. Don't fray, can be cut in any direction but don't stretch and not very strong
