    1. Woods
      1. Hard woods
        1. Hardwoods are very hard easy to maintain. they have an elegant finish and there are many types to choose from.
          1. Hardwoods are very expensive because they take along time to grow aInd also can be hard to work with.
          2. Soft woods
            1. Soft woods are cheap in comparison to hardwoods And they are relatively easy to work with and it is lighter than hardwoods.
              1. Softwoods are not very strong and are easily broken and damaged so are not good for furniture.
              2. Manufactured woods
                1. This wood can be weak and very difficult to work with, tools are easily blunted and also boards are difficult to join.
                  1. Using manufactured Wood uses up waste products that would otherwise have no use.
                2. Plastics
                  1. Thermosetting Plastics
                    1. Can be coloured and have good resistance to water. They have a high surface hardness and arev hard.
                      1. They are quite brittle and also once heated and formed once they stay in that shape and cannot be reformed
                      2. Thermo plastics
                        1. Thermo plastics can be reheated and reformed over and over again, they are light weight, coloured and most can be recycled.
                          1. They can be expensive and at times are expensive to recycle. Some scratch easily and can give of dangerous fumes.
                      3. Function
                        1. To securly hold any valuables placed in it. It should be suitable for a desk/bedroom area and be astheically pleasing.
                          1. The storage box should safely and securly hold any items so that they will not be lost or damaged.
                            1. Also the box itself should be very durable and be able to with stand minor abuse. The materials it is constructed from should be strong and durable.
                            2. Form
                              1. The shape of the product should be crafted around the performance requirements and what the storage container is actually going to hold.
                                1. All edges of the product should be curved/rounded so as the user cannot be hurt. Also these curved edges are more aesthetically pleasing.
                                  1. The product should be of a suitable design for a teenagers bedroom and blend in with the surroundings e.g pencil case, books, phone, iPod ect.
                                  2. Performance Requirements
                                    1. Any openings or doors should open smoothly without sticking or shifting out of the correct position.
                                      1. The product should be light weight and able to be moved from place to place
                                        1. The product should be able to be locked if the owner so wishes.
                                        2. User Requirements
                                          1. It needs to provide efficent storage for valuables of a typical teenager. It should be big enough to store things but small enough for a desk.
                                            1. There should be easy access to where the contents is stored and the items that it is designed to hold should fit neatly in.
                                          2. Sustainabillity
                                            1. The unseen parts of the final product should be made from materials such as manufactured woods or soft woods but for aesthetic reasons I wish to use hard woods for the exterior. Any plastic will be able to be recycled when finished with.
                                              1. Where possible the materials used in the making of the product will be, recyclable or recycled materials e.g thermoplastics and mamanufactured woods.
