CPU (Central Processing Unit)

  1. Definition: The CPU is the brain of the computer

    • The CPU has a cycle. The cycle is...
  2. Factors that affect the performance

    • Clock Speed
      • Clock speed is measured in hertz. Hertz is how many clock seconds per second. If you have a high clock speed the CPU will get very hot and will most probably break.
    • Cache Size
      • This is to reduce cost (time or energy) to access data from the main memory. The cache is a smaller, faster memory which stores copies of data from frequently used main memory locations.
    • # Of Cores
      • The # of cores run the F.E.D cycle. The higher the number of cores then more instructions will be able to be fetched, decoded and executed
  3. This is what a CPU looks like...
