Remote Access to Networks
Remote Connections
- Allows staff, using the internet, to their business network when away from their workplace using a Wi-Fi hotspots if remote connections are allowed.
- Remote connections into company networks from the internet pose security danger
- Company networks connect to the internet using a router which can be configured so that only authorised devices and users can access the internet
Firewalls
- A firewall can be configured to allow authorised devices and users and to prevent unauthories access from the internet to try to protect data stored on the company network
- The purpose of firewalls is that they control the traffic of networks. Basically when a network or internet page wants to enter your computer, a firewall will check to see if they meet with the rules set by the administrator and if it don't, they wont be allowed in
- A firewall will let the user access the network from outside if the rules allow. This can makes a computer network less secure, so a user ID and password is necessary for remote access
User ID and password
- Entered via a web pafe from the firewall or network to let the user enter the details before being allowed entry to the network
