    1. Biurets solution
      1. If protein is present it will turn from pale blue to lilac
      2. Reducing sugar
        1. Benedict's Solution
          1. Add Benedict's, heat to 80˚C. If reducing sugar present, from blue to brick red/orange-red
          2. Starch
            1. Iodine solution
              1. If present it will turn from yellow to blue-black
              2. Lipids
                1. Emulsion test
                  1. Mix in ethanol. Pour into water. If an emulsion forms a lipid is present
                  2. Non-reducing sugar
                    1. Benedict's solution
                      1. If reducing sugar test is negative, boil with hydrochloric acid, cool and neutralise with sodium hydrogencarbonate. Repeat Benedict's test.
