Security Methods In Hospitals
Biometrics
- Biometrics: the recogniction of an individuals unique physiological or behavioural characteristics.
- Types of Biometrics
- Iris Scanning
- The user will look at a camera that will capture an image of their iris. The computer will compare that with the database and match it (If possible).
- Facial Recognition Works in a similar way.
- The user will look at a camera that will capture an image of their iris. The computer will compare that with the database and match it (If possible).
- Fingerprint Recognition
- The user will place their finger onto a scanner and the divice will then scan the fingerpring pattern and match it to a database. This will then (If matched up) willow the user to access the device.
- Speech Recognition
- The user will speak into a devive which will compare the speach patern to a database attempting to match it up with a existing record.
- Palm Print Recognition
- Similar to finger print a device matches the palms indivdual features and vein patterns in a hand and matches this to a database
- Iris Scanning
- Advantages and Disadvantages
- Advantages
- The biometric identification is unique to the ndividual to each user and so can not be coppied
- A password or security question does not need to be remembered so it is unlikely that the user will forget.
- The method is more reliable than that of others.
- Mobile divices can also use this type of security software.
- Disadvantages
- Some individuals are concerned about using biometrics for privecy reasons.
- They are not 100% reliable and in some cases there are false rejection
- Some biometrics can be affected by the environment such as speech recognition can be affected by background noise.
- Advantages
Physical security methods
- Types of Physical security
- Security Camera
- Guards can moniter these with a live colour and sound feed and scan for threats and /or danger.
- Keycards/Number locks
- Key cards can be used to activate magnetic lock a simple way to enter/exit a room with out the need to remember a code. These can be easy to lose or be stolen though.
- Number locks are similar to a key card appart from they use a code to allow users to gain access to a specific area.
- Security guards
- Used to control access to the building and logs visitors. They can also check the ID card of staff to make sure they are permitted into a specific area.
- Backup Tapes and Disks
- In the event of lost data a back up will be taken reguraly to ensure that n the event of a disaster they have a back up in a seperater area.
- Security Camera
- Types of Physical security
Software security
- Types of software security.
- User acccess permissions
- A admin will set a user to be allowed to access specific areas and files withing the area to stop un necessasr information eaching them.
- User asccess passwords
- Each user will set a password for their area and files so that people can not gain access to that area.
- Fire wall/ Intrusion Detection System
- Hacking and access of malicious software will be stopped at this point and some files will require admin permissions to access them.
- Encryption
- Files and other details will be transfered into a code (e.g. a=e f=$ g=%) to make it difficult for hackers to understand the data they try to access.
- Virus Protection
- Virus portection software will warn the user when a virus is potentiol and automaticall clean any malicious software.
- Data back up and recovery
- In the event of lost data a back up will be taken reguraly to ensure that n the event of a disaster they have a back up in a seperater area.
- User acccess permissions
- Types of software security.
