1. BLS/ CPR

   • Place one heel of hand on chest and second ontop and interlock the fingers
   • 100-120 cardiac compressions per minute
   • Compress chest wall by 5-6cm in adults
   • 2:30 ratio of rescue breaths to chest compressions in adults

2. CAUSES OF COLLAPSE

   • Haemorrhage
   • Hypovolaemia- Decrease circulating volume
   • High blood pressure- pregnant
   • Hypoxia in children- lack of oxygen
   • Cardiac in adults

3. DRSABC procedure

   • 1.Danger
     • Look for hazards around me and patient
   • 2.Response
     • Gently shake them and shout in each ear
   • 3.Shout for help
     • Ask for help from another person
   • 4.Airways
     • Head tilt and chin lift to open and check airway
   • 5.Breathing
     • Check for agnol breathing by placing ear over patients mouth and looking at chest for 10 seconds
       • CALL 999
         • Location, Incident
   • 6. Circulation
     • Check carotid pulse if confident

5. 2 TYPES

   • 1. Cardiac arrest- Absence of circulation and breathing
   • 2. Respiratory arrest- No breathing but there is a pulse
