NATO 1949

The Berlin Blockade was the first confrontation of the Cold war. In order to establish an alliance, and keep the USA in and the USSR out, The Western European nations formed NATO.
1. NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation)
  1. NATO was an established alliance between America and other Western European countries.
    1. NATO members agreed that if an NATO country came under attack, all members would come to their defence.
Warsaw pact
1. In 1955 the Soviets responded by creating the Warsaw pact, a military alliance of Eastern European countries which mirrored NATO.
2. Increased Soviet influence.
