1. sustainability

   • how do we ensure it's durability?
     • if metal is used, consider welding
       • to ensure joints won't seperate
     • use finishes eg, varnish, paint, electroplating etc.
       • to prevent abrasion or oxidation
     • if wood is used, consider using pvc glue
       • stronger than other glue

2. form

   • use of space
     • small
   • safety to user
     • make sure all sharpe edges are removed
       • file the corners
     • try not to make the object too heavy- if it falls on the user it wouldn't do much damage
       • use lighter material
   • structure of the stand
     • able to withstand pressure from headphone
       • stable, wont topple over
   • colour should be slightly darker than the colour of the table to blend it with the surroundings but still stand out a little

3. cost

   • how can we be cost effective
     • use cheaper more accessable material (but durable)

4. material

   • what material is suitable for this?
     • metal
       • ferrous metal
         • mild steel
           • will rust
             • will need a finish
           • easily joined
           • inexpensive
         • stainless steel
           • won't rust
           • more expensive than mild steel
           • difficult to join
       • non-ferrous
         • not practical because most are malleable and ductile so they wont be able to keep its shape
     • plastic
       • doesn't need a finish
       • easily accessable
       • inexpensive
       • comes in various different colours
       • but-doesn't look professional, is brittle
     • wood
       • will need a finish

5. user needs

   • headphones can be placed on the stand with ease
   • able to withstand the weight of the headphone
     • has to be stable, made with material that is tough, withstands tension strength
   • suitable size
     • one that won't take up too much space on the user's desk

6. function

   • to be able to hold a pair of headphones
     • stable, able to withstand pressure and it's weight
   • reduce the possibility of damage to the headphones
     • it wont just be lying around

7. performance

   • should be able to be placed on a desk or flat surface
   • should be able to be used for a few years without breaking
     • use finish to prevent abrasion
     • use strong material
