What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
- There are many different film distribution companies that
could decide to distribute our film, as many distribution
companies release films following the crime genre.
- Such as: Universal studios, Paramount
Pictures, New line cinema, MGM, WarnerBros, Lionsgate
- It would be a good idea to chose a distribution company that has had
previous success in distributing films that are based around the crime
genre, therefore we carried out some further research into the companies.
- Paramount pictures distributed one of the most successful crime films of all time which is 'The Godfather'. It grossed $268,500,000
worldwide and started with a budget of $7,000,000. The film had two sequels and all together the trilogy grossed $574,800,000
worldwide with a spending budget of $63,500,000. Paramount pictures is a well known film distributer that has had a lot of success
in distributing other films in the crime genre such as Face Off, Snake Eyes, Payback, Watchmen and The wolf of wall street.
Paramount Pictures clearly has an interest in distributing crime films and there seems to be a big market for them. Therefore we feel
that this distribution company would be interested in our film, and that we would benefit if they we're to make the decision to
distribute our film.
- Warner Bros has also had a lot of success in distributing films that follow the
crime genre. One of its major success's is the film Goodfellas. This film grossed
$46,836,394. Other success's which they have had in releasing crime genre films
are, RockNRolla, The Dark Knight and The Departed. This distribution company
clearly also has an interest in films that come under the crime genre, therefore I
feel that this company would perhaps be interest in our film.
- 20th century fox is one of the largest film distributers in the world, they too have had success in
releasing films that follow the crime genre such as taken for example, which grossed $226,830,568 and
also had a sequel Taken 2 which grossed $376,141,306. For these reasons it may be the case that
they would be interested in distributing our film.
- Another distribution company which could possibly be interested in distributing our film is Lionsgate. Similarly
to the other distribution companies listed Lionsgate has released successful crime films such as Now You See
Me which grossed $351,723,989 and Crank which grossed $42,931,041.
