Generating hydrogen by electrolysis of
water requires electricity, which is mainly
produced by burning fossil fuels.
This means that using hydrogen-fuelled cars
will result in the burning of fossil fuels and
carbon dioxide emissions, unless renewable
methods of generating electricity are used.
Supplying the hydrogen to
vehicles using fuel cells is a
problem. There is no network of
refuelling stations for hydrogen.
One solution is to produce
hydrogen in the vehicle by
reacting petrol with steam.
