    • 1. Maintain the pulp vitality
    • 2. Preserve & maintain the tooth
      • from damage & necrotic pulp
      • before dev to
        • periapical abcess
        • or bone destruction
    • 3. Preserve & restore the tooth
      • with failed endo ttt previously
  2. INDICATIONS

    • 1. Teeth with pulpal &/or periapical pathology
    • 2. Healty teeth that need endo ttt
      • to provide space for intraradicular post to retain a restoration
    • 3. Teeth retained to support over-denture
  3. CONTRAINDICATION

    • 1. Non-restorable teeth
      • to be functionally
      • & esthetically acceptable
    • 2. Insufficient periodontal support
      • to retain the tooth
    • 3. Non-strategic tooth
      • not in occlusion
      • & not needed
    • 4. Vertical root fracture
      • hopeless prognosis
    • 5. Unfavorable anatomic conditions
      • sclerosed / severely curved canals
      • apical surgery also inadvisable
    • 6. Massive resorption
      • internal & external resorption
    • 7. Accidental perforation
    • 8. Complete crown fracture
      • when root extrusion cannot be done
  4. Anatomical Considerations

    • Normal Anatomy
    • Types of roots
      • Type I
        • mature (closed apex) & straight root
      • Type II
        • mature but not straight root
          • slightly curved
          • severely curved
          • dilacerated
          • bayonet
      • Type III
