What this unit covers

The Endodontics unit sits in the Restorative Dentistry, Endodontics and Periodontology strand of Dentistry. Its resources follow the path of a tooth problem: how the pulp becomes inflamed, how it is diagnosed, how it is treated and how treatment is judged afterwards.

  • Pulp disease and diagnosis: the Pulpitis quiz asks about causes and irritants, while the mind maps Dental pulp Testing, Pulpal and Periapical Diagnoses and Disorders of the pulp cover the same ground as diagrams.
  • Treatment steps: Root canal treatment covers access preparation, including where to drill on anterior and posterior teeth. Obturation compares one and two appointments.
  • Instruments and materials: the Endodontic Instruments chapter map covers classifications, and there are maps on Endo Files, Sealer and Endo Materials.
  • Problems and outcomes: maps on Procedural complications, Failure of Endo Tx, Re-Treatment and Root Resorption.

Where to start

Begin with the Root canal treatment mind map for the overall shape of a procedure. Then take the Pulpitis quiz. Wrong answers show you which causes and stimuli to revisit.

Using flashcards for recall

The flashcard decks suit short, repeated sessions. Toothache 1 asks about reversible and irreversible pulpitis. Sequelae of Endodontic Infection and Endo Midterm cover pain pathways and nerve fibres. Several numbered decks, from Endodontics I onwards, hold 100 cards each.

Practice for the NBDE

Two quizzes are titled for NBDE Part 2 and focus on endodontics. Use them after the maps and decks, as a check on what has stuck. Dental materials and biomaterial 2 are useful extras.

Putting it together

Read a map, test yourself with a quiz, then revisit weak spots in the flashcards. Teachers can set a map or deck as a starting point for a session. Open any resource that suits you and see how far recall gets you.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Start with the Root canal treatment mind map. It outlines access preparation and where to drill, which gives you a frame for the rest. After that, try the Pulpitis quiz to see which causes and irritants you still need to review.

Is there anything for NBDE practice?

Yes. The page lists two quizzes built around NBDE Part 2 endodontics. They work well once you have been through the mind maps and flashcard decks, as a way to check recall under test-style questions.

What do the mind maps cover?

The maps cover root canal treatment, obturation, instruments, files, sealers and materials, plus diagnosis, pulp testing, abscesses, root resorption, procedural complications, re-treatment, surgery and ways of judging success or failure of treatment.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you make your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes.

Who made these resources?

They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. Over 30 contributors have added material to this unit, so styles and depth vary. Check a resource against your course notes or textbook if you need exact wording.

What if I cannot find my topic?

Look at the related maps and decks, as some topics appear under different titles. For example, diagnosis shows up in several maps and flashcard decks. You can also make your own mind map or flashcards for the gap.
