1. Modular Design

   • Advantages
     • Smaller problems are easier to solve and understand
     • Development can be shared between a team of programmers.
     • Code can be reused. Reduces the amount of code that needs to be produced.
     • Different modules can be programmed in different languages which may be suitable for the application it requires within the program.
   • Disadvantages
     • Modules must be linked.
     • Programmers must ensure cross referencing is done.
     • Interfaces between modules must be planned.
     • Testing of links must be carried out.
   • Splitting problems down into smaller problems which allow the analyst to split it into smaller groups of people.

2. Algorithm

   • Step by step method for solving a problem.

3. Flowchart

   • Way of representing an algorithm through the form of a diagram.
   • Diamond = Decisions. IF and CASE statements
   • Parallelogram = Input / Output
   • Rectangle = Process
   • Rounded Rectangle = Terminator (Start/Stop)

4. RAD - Rapid Application Development

   • Advantages
     • Something can be seen working early in the project.
     • End user more involved and so can change the requirements as the product becomes clearer.
