smart materials are materials that responds to a stimulus like heat or light and then return to their original state hen the stimulus is removed, Thermo - heat Hydro - liquid Chromic - colour  photo - light  bio - biological react - change  thermochromic materials change colour when they reach a certain temperature photocromic materials change when they are exposed to sunlight hydrocromic materials change when they are exposed to a liquid  bio smart materials have a biological function such as killing bacteria  SMA - smart memory alloys  nitonal - smart wire which changes its length hen heated used in dental braces flexium - used for stents which are put in arteries to keep blood flowing and needs to be bio safe  memoflex - used in frames of glasses. it bends to keep it safe  preious mettle clay - molds has particals of gold and iron  it can be polished to look like gold or silver  polymore - low melting point usefull for molding and ergonomics
