Powellism
Enoch Powell was controversial and influential politician in 60/70s
Challenged party openly + influenced Conservative politics
Traditional views about being English and National Identity
People voted Tory due to Powell's 'One nation Tory' views + traditional views when post-war immigration was increasing + people thought they were 'stealing' (THEY'RE CALLED PEOPLE LIKE YOU, YOU BASTARDS) their jobs for they worked at lower rates
Seat in West Midlands from Labour dominance
Helped Ted Heath get elected + was almost elected Tory leader but his views scared some and he abdicated due to UKs joining of the EEC without referendum-after this he told his supporters to vote Labour as they would place referendum on EEC
Influenced Thatcherism-specifically monetarism although she removed harshness of collectivism and race views
Racial Bigot ('..not a racial problem, we just don't want immigrants' '200,000 signatures in 2 days' + 'Rivers of Blood' speech 1968, Bham)
Collectivism
Powell accused Thatcher of stealing policies-something opponents agreed with
