Matter
There are three types of matter; Solid, Liquid, and Gas.
Heterogeneous Mixture = Any mixture that is uniform in composition.
Homogeneous Mixture = Any mixture that is not uniform in composition.
There are three types of Mechanical mixtures;
Suspension= Are Heterogeneous mixtures of a solid and a liquid in which the solid does not dissolve. Settles when left. May look Homogenous, but is Heterogeneous. ex. cake mix,
Colloid= Are mixtures with characteristics part way between a solution and a suspension. Do not settle when left. Heterogeneous. ex. mayonnaise, jello
Solution= Are mixtures made by mixing a solute and a solvent. Homogenous. ex. salt water
There are two types of Pure Substances;
Elements=
Compounds= a pure substance composed of two or more different atoms chemically bonded to one another.
Physical and Chemical Properties and Changes
Qualitative= describing the quality of something in size and appearance. ex. the petals are orange
Quantitative= measuring something in numbers. ex. 50 mph
Physical Properties=
Chemical Properties=
Physical Changes=
