INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN

ID is the process of taking information and framing it in a way that makes it interesting and easy for students to understand.  THE INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER analyzes training needs, analyzes the audience, defines objectives, defines the appropriate learning strategies for a course, creates assessment to test learner knowledge, designs the course´s look and feel, storyboards the course prior to development, develops the course in an authoring tool, measures the impact on learner´s work performance.

TIPS FOR INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN

Ways to organize material Alphabetically Categorically Order of importance Sequentially

e-learners analysis Who is the primary/secondary audience? What is their age? What is their gender? What is their educational background? What is their cultural background? What is their work experience? What is their reading level? How much they should previously know about the topics? What hardware will they use? What level of participation is expected?

How to motivate learners Chunk the course Clearly state and communicate the objectives Give immediate feedback vary your strategies Give real-world examples Add gamification activities Give learners a chance to succeed Use a personalized approach Be enthusiastic Testing, testing, testing

Habits for Effective Design Act as a consultant, stay curious, build partnerships, study related industry trends, define standards.

Conclusions

Instructional design has been around for many decades now, and it has proven to be effective when planning training courses of all kinds.  Knowing how it all relates, and what is the importance of instructional design, we can understand better how to use it, although its process might seem too long or tiring sometimes, it is for the best. Skipping a step would create serious issues when the course is on its way, and learners might not get to the goal.
