Mid ocean ridge A mid ocean ridge is a mountain range that forms underwater as a result of volcanic activity A mid ocean ridge forms when two plates pull apart causing a fissure in the earths crust magma tavels up through the fissure where it cools and harden when it meaets cold seawater following a series of eruptions the ocean floor is built up to form a ridge of volcanic mountains  

Mid atlantic ridge ocean ridge that runs through the atlantic ocean it forms when the north american and eurasian plates pull apart the mid atlantic ridge is so high in places that it reaches the surface of the ocean forming volcanic islands
