9.1 speed and distance time graphs
9.2 Velocity and Acceleration
9.3 More about velocity time graphs
9.4 Annalysing motion time graphs
Speed=Distance/Time
Distance time graph
v=s/t
m/s=m/s
A straight verticle line symbolises that the object is at stop
The speed of the object can be calculed by working out the gradient
Velocity is the speed in a given direction
A vector is a physical quantity with direction and magnitude
Acceleration=change in velocity/time taken
Deceleration is the change in velocity per second when an object slows down
velocity time graphs can be used to calculate acceleration
a=delta v/t
m/s^2=m/s /s
Motion sensors
The gradient of a line on a velocity time graph represents the acceleration
The area under the line on a velocity time graph represents the distance travelled
Motion sensors send sound waves to a moving object to measure its change in speed
The motion sensor is linked to a computer and records the velocity change
If the line is horizontal the acceleration is 0
The speed of an object moving at a constant speed is given by the gradient of the line on a distance time graph
The accseleration of an object is given by the gradient of a line on a velosity time graph
