DEFINITIONS

DEMOCRACY - The system of Government where every adult could vote.

REICHSTAG - This was the name of the elected Parliament.

PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION - The system of voting and it was very fair but it made it nearly impossible for one party to win a majority in the Reichstag.

COALITION GOVERNMENT - A government made up of 2 or more political parties. This often happened because of Proportional Representation.

ARTICLE 48 - This allowed the President to abandon democracy and rule without the Reichstag (emergency only) 

REICHSWEHR - The name given to the army after the Treaty of Versailles (limited to 100,000 men)

PRESIDENT - He was elected for 7 years by all adults over the age of 21

CHANCELLOR - He was the leading politician, chosen by the President.
