Plyometric Training:
- Training that is designed to increase an athlete's explosive power
- Useful for athletes trying to increase their vertical jump or running explosiveness and speed
Page 2
Interval Training:
- Training that involves bursts of high-intensity work interspersed with periods of low-intensity work or rest
Page 3
Continuous Training:
- Involved working for a sustained period of time without rest in order to improve cardiovascular fitness
- Rests are not allowed! You must exercise at a constant rate within your aerobic training zone (60-80% max heart rate)
- Training should last at least 20 minutes and can last up to 2+ hours!
Advantages:
- Needs only a small amount of easy-to-use, accessible equipment
- Good for aerobic fitness
- Good for losing weight
Disadvantages:
- Can be boring
- Doesn't improve anaerobic fitness, so not as useful for team games or activities that require quick bursts of speed (e.g. sprinting)
