Electronic Component Description

All electronic circuits require a power supply in order to
make them work. Batteries
are often the safest and most convenient way to power small, portable or mobile
projects. The chemicals inside a battery react and when connected to a circuit
force the electrons to move in a definite direction through the wires and
components that make up the circuit. The battery therefore can be viewed as an
electron pump because it forces the electrons to move. This movement of the
electrons is what is meant by an electric current. The size of the electric
current is measured in amperes or amps. If a larger current is needed then a
larger battery (electron pump) is required. The strength of a battery is
measured in volts.
The electronic symbol for a battery is as shown.
