- Basalt a fine grained mafic igneous rock consisting augite + calcic plagioclase.(augite is a high-Ca pyroxene and Calcic plagioclase refers to plagioclase crystals contain more anorthite than albite.
-Basalt exist in tectonic environment such as (MOR, island arcs, back-arc basins, intraplate oceanic islands, Lip, and intra-continental rifts).
-basalt may be aphyric, but contain more commonly phenocrysts or microphenocrysts of olivine and of pyroxene and plagioclase in evolved basalt.
