Biological Aggression

Caused by birth, explained by genetics, biochemistry and structure

On the Nature side of the debate

Testosterone

Correlation study shows that high testosterone also show more signs of aggression

Biochemistry

Amygdala and Limbic system

Structures in our brain, these parts are related to how the brain recognises other peoples emotions and react to situations. Also deals with our survival emotion such as fear, anger etc

When parts of the amygdala in a woman was electrically stimulated she was shown to be more verbally aggressive

Social Aggression

Caused by the environment and can be learned, not the same as environmentally triggered aggression, e.g an event that triggers something biological

On the Nurture side of the debate

Social learning theory

We copy behavior of other people due to us noticing that we may be positively punished or positively reinforced.

Reinforcement

Something that is done to us after we commit an action, can be positive meaning that we want more of it, or negative meaning that we want less
