George Milton:-Small man -Always been close friends with Lennie, since he promised Aunt Clara that he would look after Lennie.- He shares the same dream as Lennie to own a piece of land,that they are trying to work hard to buy.Lennie Small:- He is a big man, who doesn't know his own strength.- Gentle and kind- Very forgetful, George has to constantly remind him of this, like how to behave and ect.Curley:-The boss' son -Little man who hates big guys - Prize fighter, looks for any fight that he can have-Newly Married, very possessive of his wife, though he still visits brothels.Curleys Wife:-Never find out her name only known as "Curleys Wife" - Curleys property, has no identity or individuality - Young,pretty very attractive - Flirt, is always hanging around the bunk house -Lonely, is the only women in the bunk house, Curley barely shows her any attention -Doesn't love Curley, just thought that he was a "safe husband" -Curleys trophy wifeCrooks:-Black stable hand-Only black man on the ranch and is isolated because of his skin colour. -Usually referred to as the nigger, the men do not mean to insult him when they call him this, they believe that this is his name. -Seen many men come and go who all have the same dream to have a piece of land,but none of them have succeeded in this dream. -He is very lonely Candy:- Oldest ranch hand - Too old to do any proper work, cleans the bunk house - Doesn't challenge anything,can't afford to loose his job-His dog is shot because he is too old and isn't good enough to do anything. Candy is devastated.-He is lonely and isolated, makes friends with George and Lennie, puts money in to co-own the piece of land they all want 

Great DepressionOn October 29 1929, millions of dollars were wiped out in an event that became known as the Wall Street Crash. It led to the Depression in America which crippled the country from 1930 - 1936. People lost their life savings when firms and banks went bust, and 12 - 15 million men and women - one third of America's population - were unemployed. 

Ranch HandsIn this time ranch hands were lucky to have work, they had a bunk house to stay in and also food. The pay was low but they couldn't risk being fired.
