Intro Abraham Maslow proposed that all people seek to satisfy 5 basic kinds of need to motivate behaviour argues that lowest level of need must be met b4 a person will strive to satisfy needs that are higher up the hierarchy such as self-esteem need lowest level of unmet needs is the prime motivator of behaviour if and when this level is satisfied needs at the next highest level motivates behaviour
in global economy important for managers to realize citizens of different countries might differ in need they seek to satisfy through work in poorer countries with low standards of living, physiological & safety needs more likely to be prime motivators of behaviour As countries become wealthier & have higher standards of living likely that needs related to personal growth & accomplishment become important as motivators of behaviours
