Chapter 4
Flashcards do conjunto (20)
- 1When is absolute referencing used?-when a referenced cell in a spreadsheet formula needs to remain exactly the same when the formula is copied to other cells
- 2What are the two main types of modelling used in ICT?-modelling of objects
-mathematical modelling - 3What are the uses of computer models?-to create a virtual representation of the item within your computer
-model large items to look at the effect on them from different external influences
-to see different layer (external view, electrical wiring)
-to asks questions of the model - 4Why is computer modelling used?-safer and cheaper
-only one model needs to be created in a computer
the model can be altered and changed
-the model can be backed up and shared
- computer models can be accelerated or slowed down to see the effects that could not be viewed in reality - 5What are the main characteristics of a model?-variables
-formulae
-rules
-functions - 6What is a variable?- an identifier associated with a particular cell
- could be a cell reference - 7What is a formulae?-the way that a calculation is represented in a spreadsheet
- 8What are rules?-A set of procedures that must be followed
-or the sequence of events required for the calculation to work - 9What is a function?-Used to represent a formulae that is too complex or too long to expect an ordinary user to enter
e.g.
SUM:adds a range of cells and gives the total
MIN:gives the minimum value from a list
COUNTIF:counts the number of cells within a range that meet the given criterion - 10what is a 'what-if?' question?-an attempt to find out what is going to happen in the future
-it requires the value to be changed so other values are re-calculated
-should have two parts (what could be changed/the question) - 11What are the advantages of using a spreadsheet to create and run simulations?-'what-if?' questions can be asked without rebuilding
-automatic re-calculation
-graphs can be produced
-variables and constants can be used
-the model can be saved and backed up
-the model can be shared
-quicker and cheaper than a physical model - 12What are the disadvantages of using a spreadsheet to create and run simulations?-the model may not be an accurate representation of the real world
-if the model relates to people then an accurate result may not be given
-many variables need to be considered
-producing a model will be time consuming
-expensive hardware and software may be needed - 13What is a worksheet?-a large grid of cells on a single sheet
-used to hold data on a single area of the business - 14What is a workbook?-A collection of more than one worksheet in the same spreadsheet
-can be used to divide data up into different categories and organise it - 15What are the advantages of using a workbook?-data that is changed on one worksheet will be reflected across the whole workbook
-different access rights can be given to different worksheets
-easy to back up and sent to other people - 16What is a row?-A range of cells that goes across the spreadsheet
- used to organise data - 17What is column?-a range of cells that goes down the spreadsheet
-used to organise data - 18What is a cell?-an individual data store identified by a column and row indicator
-they can be formatted
-they can be protected to stop the data within them being altered without a password - 19What is a range?-a group of cells
-used when cells with it contain similar data
-make it easier to understand the spreadsheet and how it is working - 20What is relative cell referencing?-when the cell referenced in a spreadsheet formula changes when the formula is copied to other cells
-when a formula or function is copied the cell reference within the formula or function will move
