- 14GL (Fourth Generation Language)A language that requires little programming knowledge. Can query, manipulate and report on data.
- 2AlgorithmA sequence of instructions designed to perform a particular task. It is a design for a program.

- 4Application LanguageA programming language that is built into a package such as a word processor and can be used to control it.

- 9Declarative LanguagesLanguages where the programming concentrates on the objectives rather than on the method of solution. Programs consist of facts and rules. Prolog for example.

- 15High Level LanguageA language that allows instructions to be given to the computer without considering the details of the hardware.

- 17InterpreterA piece of software that converts a high level language into machine language during execution.
- 18Lexical AnalysisThe breaking down of a text file into individual words.
- 19Linkage editorSoftware that will join code from library routines and from code written in a different language into a single executable program.
- 20LoaderPart of the OS that transfers an executable program from disc into memory ready for execution. The OS decides on the address to be used.
