Flashcards do conjunto (24)
- 1Alpha (α)Greek symbol used universally to represent angle of attack
- 2Beta (β)Angle of sideslip
- 3arrivalsAircraft joining the circuit
- 4attitude(The most important word in flying)
The nose position - up or down (and how much), and wings level or banked (left or right, and how much) - in relation to the visual horizon or the attitude indicator. - 5AVGASAviation gasoline, petroleum - fuel
- 6circuitThe flightpath of the aircraft around the aerodrome when taking off and landing.
- 7clock codeA way of describing where something is in relation to the nose of the aircraft. 12 o'clock high means straight ahead and below you.
- 8coaming (or glareshield)Overhanging lip above the instrument panel to reduce reflections.
- 9departureleaving the circuit area. Alternatively, loss of control - departure from controlled flight
- 10hangarThe aircraft garage
- 11headsetEarphones and boom microphone set
- 12holding pointtake-off waiting point near the runway
- 13intercominternal communications system - an electronic system for talking inside the cockpit
- 14knotA speed of one nautical mile per hour.
- 15maintenance releaseThe document that tells the pilot that the aircraft is serviceable for the flight
- 16numbersThe numbers show the runway direction to the nearest 10deg
- 17okta1/8 of the sky (4 oktas of cloud means 1/2 the area of the sky is obscured)
- 18squelchadjustment knob to reduce background noise on the intercom and radio
- 19tarmacthe aircraft parking area
- 20thresholdthe beginning of the runway marked with spaced while lines called piano keys
- 21unicomDuring the period that normal air traffic services are not available, a Unicom service may be provided on CTAF frequencies. It is a general broadcast frequency for use by pilots. Services on this frequency for fuel, parking, transport have lower priority than services for the purpose of traffic warning and separation.
- 22wake turbulencethe disturbed air behind a large aircraft - be very careful of this
- 23wind velocityThe speed and direction from which the wind is blowing expressed in knots and degrees magnetic for the ATIS and degrees true for the area forecast
- 24windshearVarying wind speed and direction at different heights - be VERY CAREFUL of this
