Equation for photosynthesis carbon dioxide+water----------> (+light energy) glucose + oxygen
What is photosynthesis Light energy being transferred to chemical energy by plants
Process for photosynthesis 1. Carbon dioxide taken in by the leaves 2. Chlorophyll traps the light energy needed for photosynthesis 3. Energy is used to convert the carbon dioxide and water into glucose
Limiting factors Plants grow best when the have enough, light, carbon dioxide, water and kept at suitable temperatures.
Light Lack of light would slow down process as provides energy might be limited by shade
Cold Enzymes do not work effectively and slow down the rate of photosynthesis
Independent Variable One being tested
Dependant variable One you measure
How plants use glucose Converted into insoluble starch for storage Used for respiration Converted into fats and oils for storage used to produce cellulose strengthens cell walls Used to produce proteins
Mineral ions Plants also need these absorbed from water by algae or soil by plants nitrate ions used to produce protein
Distribution of organisms Affected by: temperature, availability of nutrients, amount of light, availability of water, availability of oxygen, availability of carbon dioxide.
