- 1What is a Database?A structured collection of records or data stored in a computer system.
- 2What is a Data capture form?A method designed for collecting specific data.
- 3Why do Data capture forms use a specific amount of spaces or boxes for filling out forms?To ensure each field is completed correctly.
- 4What is data often entered as into a database and give an example?Data is often entered as codes, for example Y for yes and N for No.
- 5Why are codes entered into databases?1) Quicker to type in.
2) Use less disk space.
3) Are easy to validate.
4) Make searching the database easier as data entered is in a standard format. - 6What do Barcodes and Magnetic stripes hold?Data that is captured by a reader or scanner.
- 7What does optical character recognition read?It reads data from documents and converts it into text on a computer ready for use.
- 8What do optical mark readers gather?They gather data from pre-printed forms which have been marked up.
- 9What is Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) used for?It is used to track or identify objects which have been chip implanted, e.g. a pet or a product.
- 10What is Voice Recognition used for?It is used to turn speech into computer data so that a voice or a speaker can be identified or the spoken words can be entered into a word processor.
- 11What do sensors gather data for?They gather data for use by computers.
