- e-s absorb fixed amount of energy (E=hv)
- e-s jump to higher fixed energy level - 2emission spectra- black background w/ coloured lines
- e-s emit fixed amount of energy (E=hv)
- e-s drop to lower fixed energy level - 3bohr's theory- emmision → when e-s excited they jump to a higher state, then drop down, releasing energy
- absorption → e-s do not drop back down to lower state
- photon of light emitted/absorbed when e- changes from one energy level to another
energy of photon = difference between energy levels (△E)
