Computer systems

Computer systems

1. storage

   • solid state
     • SD card
     • Memory card
     • SSD
   • optical
     • DVD disc-allows the user to access data from little bumps read by a laser hitting the surface and whether it hits a sensor or not
     • CD disc-allows user to access data via little bumps on the surface of the disc
     • Blu Ray-works the same as the CD and DVD except the bumps are closer together
   • magnetic
     • Magnetic tape
     • Magnetic disk

2. output

   • Screen monitor-takes data input by keyboard and mouse and does an action using the data that has been input
   • Printer-Takes data input by a computer system and outputs paper that has certain things printed on
   • Headphones-outputs certain sounds depending on input data
   • GPS-tells you how to get to a certain place based on input data
   • Projector-projects certain images based on input data

3. input

   • keyboard-allows user to input data into a computer system by pressing labelled buttons
   • Mouse-allows the user to select icons on a screen by sensing motion
   • Microphone-senses sound waves in the air and amplifies them through a speaker
   • Heat sensor-the screen senses a rise in temperature (due to the body warmth of the finger) and inputs data according to where it was sensed
   • Touch screen-Senses movement on the screen and inputs data depending on where it was sensed
