Python

  1. Algorithm

    • Steps to solve a problem.
  2. Decomposition

    • Breaking down into steps to solve a problem.
  3. Sequencing

    • When actions happens one after the other.
  4. Python idle

    • IDLE is an integrated development environment for Python, which has been bundled with the default implementation of the language since 1.5.2b1. It is packaged as an optional part of the Python packaging with many Linux distributions. It is completely written in Python and the Tkinter GUI toolkit.
  5. Variables

    • A variable is a memory location, which can temporarily store text or numbers.
    • They can only contain numbers, letters and underscores
  6. Python Strings

    • String Literals
      • String literals in python are surrounded by either single quotation marks, or double quotation marks. You can represent one with the print() function.
  7. Python Language

    • Python Language is simple to learn and is used by many companies.
      • E.g. NASA, Paint Shop Pro, Google's Search Engine, Civilisation 4 Computer Game, CERD Large Hadron Collider Research and Dropbox.
  8. Functions

    • Functions are important built-in routines, which do a specific job.
    • They appear as purple in Python.
    • Examples of them are input() and print()
  9. Programming

    • Sequencing instructions
    • The sequence order and accuracy is important
  10. Python's development environment

    • It's called IDLE (Integrated Development Environment)
    • There are two modes (interactive and script mode)
      • Interactive mode lets you see your results as you type them. It uses the Shell window.
      • Script mode allows you to save your program and run it again later. It uses the Editor window.
  11. Debugging

    • (Definition) The process of identifying and removing errors from computer hardware or software
    • Syntax errors
    • Reading interpreter feedback
  12. Variable naming rules

    • Variables must start with a letter or the underscore character
    • They cannot begin with numbers
    • Variable can only contain alpha-numeric characters and underscores
      • A-Z (capitals and lowercase)
      • 0-9

    • They are case-sensitive
      • age, Age and AGE are all different variables
    • Variables can have short names...
      • such as x and y
    • ...or more descriptive names
      • including age. carname and total_volume
  13. Computer bugs

    • It was thought to have been named after a real bug crawled into somebody's computer and stopped it from working
    • 'Bug' refers to an error in programming
  14. "Hello World!

    • A programming tradition
    • Created to display text on screens
