1. Five passages, 2 question formats

   • Underling assigned numbers, and boxed numbers.
   • punctuation: 10, grammar: 12, sentence structure: 18.
     • Correct misplaced punctuation marks.
       • Grammar targets an incorrect word.
     • Sentence structure: run-ons, fragments, placements.
       • Rhetorical skills: strategy: 12, org.: 11, & style: 12
         • Strategy: revising a passage to improve.
           • org: rearranging a sentence, fix coherency.
             • style: choose appropriate words for clarity.
             • 6 english strategies.
             • Skim the paragraph (if you have time)
             • Choose the shortest answer.
               • Don't be too influenced by an answer.
                 • Don't pick an answer that complete redoes a sentence.
                   • Be comfortable with NO CHANGE.
               • Apostrophe: possessive always gets an 's unless it ends with an s.
                 • Don't forget contractions.
                 • Sub-verb agreement: when a verb is underlined, match it to its subject.
                   • In most cases the sub. & verb are separated.
                   • Sometimes the sub & verb are together.
                   • Pronoun-noun: when you see an pro noun make sure it agrees with the noun.
                     • Remember someone, everyone, or everybody needs a sing. pronoun.
                       • Sentence structure: runons/fragments, misplaced modifiers, and parallelism.
                         • Watch for long sentences.
                         • Redundancy: Shortest, when in doubt take it out,
                     • Parallelism: different forms are used to express = ideas.
                       • Make sure the modifier is close to the word it's changing.
                         • Transitions b/w paragraphs.
                           • Add evidence
                         • Tone questions
                           • Paragraph org. & sentence org.
         • Ask yourself does it belong here, does this sound right, and does it make sense?
           • When in doubt, take it out.
           • Commas: use commas for lists, or small pauses.
           • Use commas to separate nonessential words, phrases, or clauses.
             • Use a comma to separate FANBOY cunjunctions
