The atom.

1. The centre of the the atom is called the nucleus.

   • This contains positively charged protons and neutral neutrons.

2. Outside the nucleus are negatively charged electrons, which are arranged in energy levels

3. Atoms are electrically neutral because the contain the same number of protons and electrons

4. The atomic number tells us the number of protons in an atom.

   • Atomic number also tells us the number of electrons in an atom

5. Proton has a mass of 1

   • Electron has a mass of 0
     • Neutron has a mass of 1
