Evolution by natural selection
Overproduction
- Capacity to produce more offsprings than environment can sustain
Stability of population sizes
- Remain stable regardless of individuals' capability to overproduce
Limited resources
- environment=resources limited
- Competition between individuals for resources, successful indiv. live
- environment=resources limited
Individual variability
- No two individuals are identical
Heritability of individual variability
- Parents pass on particular traits to their offsprings, they pass on their individual variability
Important points about evolutions
- Individuals do not evolve: population does
- Only heritable traits can be passed on
- Traits success depends on environment
