1. Definition

   • A selective reading skill to locate facts and answers

2. Tips for better scanning

   • Look author's use of organisers
     • letter, numbers, steps, or sequence connector
   • Selectively read and skip through sections of the passage
   • Try to anticipate how the answers will appear and what clues you might use to locate the answers
   • Look for words that are boldfaced, italicised or in a different font, style or colour
   • Do not read everything in detail. Let your eyes move quickly across the page until you find what you are looking for.
   • Focus your attention on the relevant part
