Formal Agencies of Social control

1. POLICE

   • Enforces law and Investigates crime

2. JUDICIARY (Courts)

   • Magistrate courts deal with lesser crimes e.g shoplifting and driving without license where as Crown Courts deal with more serious crimes e.g Murder,

3. PRISON SERVICE

   • Punishes criminals for breaking laws and stop them from committing crimes.

4. PARLIAMENT

   • Between them they make up laws to regulate our behaviour

5. THE POLICE

   • Most obvious type of social control and people debate about how effective Police force is as sometimes they discriminate
   • STYLES OF POLICING
     • Watchman
       • Maintaining order, usually found in working class, mixed identity areas, They may treat some groups different from others
     • Legalistic
       • Law enforcement and professionalism, usually in Socio-economic areas. They may treat different due to threat order
     • SERVICE
       • Protecting citizens form outsiders, Found in middle class areas where people demand individual treatments
