   • MUST BE CHECKED WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF MEAL TIME
   • HIGH?
     • ADMINISTER INSULIN
       • >100
         • Administer both fast and long acting insulin per physician's order
           • Note that sliding scale may be used
             • Be sure to administer fast acting with the meal
     • HYPERGLYCEMIA
       • polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, headaches, trouble concentrating, blurred vision, fatigue, weight loss, dry mouth
       • HOT & DRY? SUGAR HIGH
   • LOW?
     • HOLD FAST ACTING INSULIN
       • <70
         • Give patient orange juice to help raise blood sugar
           • Recheck blood sugar
             • Monitor for signs & symptoms of hypoglycemia
     • HYPOGLYCEMIA
       • confusion, heart palpitations, shakiness, anxiety, sweating, hunger, nausea, vomiting, shakiness
       • COLD & CLAMMY? NEED SOME CANDY
   • NORMAL?
     • 70
     • 100
     • HOLD FAST ACTING INSULIN
       • Administer long acting insulin to keep blood sugar at normal range
