'The Road Not Taken' by Robert Frost
Four 5 line stanzas
- ABAAB rhyme scheme
Frost is standing in an forest
- Can't decide which road to take
- "2 roads diverged in a yellow wood; and sorry I could not travel both"
He looks down one of them but decides to take the other one
- "Looked down one as far as I could, to where it bent in the undergrowth"
- "Then took the other as just as fair"
I think there's 2 reasons why he chose the road that he did
- He says he'll come back to the other one another time
- "Oh I kept the first for another day"
- It was the less popular road
- "Because it was grassy and wanted wear"
- He says he'll come back to the other one another time
I believe the roads represent a difficult decision Frost had to make, perhaps choosing to become a poet
- Not many people chose to be a poet
- He says it was the road 'less travelled by'
- Not many people chose to be a poet
Frost predicts that in years to come he'll be reminiscing with a hint of regret
- "I shall be telling this with a sigh; somewhere ages and ages hence"
- Still believes he made the right choice
- "I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference
