Connectivity
WAYS OF CONNECTING:
•Networking
•Wireless fidelity
•Wired connections
•Servers
•Syncing devices
•The Cloud/ Air drop
•Bluetooth
•Media cards
WHY CONNECT?
•Sharing information
•Sharing printers
•Sharing a security system
•Sharing software
•Uploading/downloading from the internet
•Syncing information between devices
•Proximity marketing
WIRED Vs WIRELESS
•Wired connections are faster than
Wi-Fi
•Wired connections are more reliable than Wi-Fi because no signal
is lost along the way
•Wired networks allow for safer data transfer than Wi-Fi
•Wi-Fi is easy for lots of people to
use simultaneously
•Wi-Fi is available without the limitations of wire lengths in a
certain area. This zone referred to as a WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network)
•Wi-Fi can be used on a range of
devices
•Long lengths of wire used for wired
connections can be expensive
•Bluetooth is wireless, allowing for the transfer of information
within a short range (10m), but wireless fidelity is often better as it has a
greater range
ADVANTAGE OF USING BLUETOOTH:
Bluetooth is wireless technology so information can be transferred
wirelessly between devices within a 10m range of each other. It is also used in
cars to connect them to phones, so that people can have hands-free telephone
calls while driving, preventing many road accidents. Many smartphones have
Bluetooth capabilities.
WHY IS A WIRELESS NETWORK SOMETIMES CHEAPER
THAN A WIRED ONE?
It is cheaper to install a router that all the devices used can
connect to, than long lengths of expensive wires connecting devices.
Installation costs are higher for wired networks.
WHAT DOES EACH DEVICE NEED FOR IT TO WORK
WITH WIFI?
Each device
needs a wireless adapter to allow it to connect to the internet, unless it has
built-in Wi-Fi capabilities. A wireless Ethernet bridge can be used to add
wireless capabilities to a device. An internet connection is needed from an
internet service provider (ISP).
GIVE ONE LIMITATION OF USING BLUETOOTH
Bluetooth
has a very short range compared with Wi-Fi of 10m, which allows for data
transfer between devices in close proximity only.
WHAT ADVANTAGE DOES A WIRED NETWORK HAVE OVER
A WIRELESS ONE?
Wired networks are usually more reliable and faster than wireless
networks because none of the signal is lost while it travels through the wires.
Wired networks can also be safer and more stable.
