Writing Narratives

A narrative is the description of an event.

A narrative is made up of the element of context, setting, a perspective, characters or actors, and a conclusion.

Context is the big picture in a sense, it’s what goes on outside of the story.

The setting is where the story takes place and when meaning what century or what time of day.

To create a narrative setting some things you can do are describing what the setting looks like, describing the sounds within the setting, explaining how a character or the reader might feel while being there, and explain what is going on within the setting.

There are different types of narration, there is the first person narrating, the second person narrating, and the third person narrating.

The first person narrating is when the story is being narrated from a character's point of view within the story.

The person narrating is when the author wants the reader to be able to react and relate to the story.

The third person narrating is when the author wants to take the story through the views of multiple characters.

There are also types of narratives called subjective and objective narrative.

The subjective narrative is based on opinions and feelings.

An objective narrative is based on facts and not opinions or feelings.

There are also different types of narrators known as trustworthy and untrustworthy narrators.

A trustworthy narrator is a narrator that gives facts that turn out to be true throughout the story.

An untrustworthy narrator does the opposite and gives facts and opinions that might turn out to be misleading further down in the story.

When you are writing a narrative story and you want to choose what kind of story it's going to be there are things you need to take into account.

You need to figure out whether you want your narrative to be subjective or objective.

You need to know whether or not you want your narrator to be untrustworthy or trustworthy.

And finally, you need to know whether you want your story to be first person, second person, or third person narrator.
