1the capacity for LTM could be considered:
- Alimited to 7+/-2
- Bpotentially infinate
- C18 - 30 seconds
2which author penned the article 'the magic number seven plus or minus two' determined a the average person could identify up to 7+/-2 flashed on a screen and concluded this was the capacity for chunked information STM.
- AGeorge Miller 1956
- BThomas Baddon 1949
- CKarl Leipzig 1966
- DArchie Carling 1957

3 in his 1887 study in which PPS were shown and asked to imedietly recall numbers and letters, what were the results Jacobs fond?
- Aon average PPS could recall 9.3 numbers
- Bon average PPS could recall 7.3 letters
- Con average PPS could recall 9.3 letters
- Don average PPS could recall 7.3 numbers
- Eon average PPS could recall 8.3 numbers
- Fon average PPS could recall 9.4 letters
4[blank_start]Cowen[blank_end] ([blank_start]2001[blank_end]) reviewed studies of STM capacity and concluded that STM was limited to four [blank_start]chunks[blank_end]. capacity for [blank_start]visual[blank_end] information was also limited to four chunks. this means that STM is not as extensive as was originally thought, meaning the [blank_start]lower[blank_end] end of Millers range is appropriate.

5A study concluded that peolpe have shorter attention spans for larger chiunks of information such as multi ward phrases over one a sylybl words. which researcher found that capacity varied according to the size of information the chunk?
- Asimon 1974
- BSteven 1948
- CSmith 1975
- DSamms 1986
6[blank_start]Jacobs[blank_end] further reaserch found [blank_start]individual[blank_end] differences had an effect. while a [blank_start]6[blank_end] year-old could remember [blank_start]6.6[blank_end] digits on average a [blank_start]19[blank_end] year-old could remember [blank_start]8.6[blank_end].

7which facts about the Peterson and Peterson study are true?
- AIt happened in 1959
- BIt happened in 1995
- CThey used 24 students tested with 8 trials
- DThey used 8 students tested with 24 trials
- EPPS was given a six a nonsense consonent syllible such as HRQ659 to recall
- FPPS was given a six a nonsense word such as 'Herbinstik' to recall
- GPPS were asked to count backwards from a number in 3s from a number for a set amount of time. this is called the retention interval.
- HPPS were asked to count backwards from a number in 4s from a number for a set amount of time. this is called the cognitive weighting duration.
- IThe counting was to prevent the PPS from forgetting the infomation
- JThe counting was to prevent the PPS from rehearsing the information
8The results of the Peterson and Peterson study are as follows:
when the retention interval was over 3 seconds [blank_start]90[blank_end]% of PPS recalled correctly
when the retention interval was over 9 seconds [blank_start]20[blank_end]% of PPS recalled correctly
when the retention interval was over 18 seconds [blank_start]2[blank_end]% of PPS recalled correctly- A90

9[blank_start]Bahrick[blank_end] et al found tested [blank_start]400[blank_end] people (from [blank_start]17[blank_end]-[blank_start]74[blank_end]) on their ex-classmates. he tested some PPS with a free recall test and some were given the aid of a [blank_start]yearbook[blank_end] with [blank_start]50[blank_end] pictures in it. PPS tested within [blank_start]15[blank_end] years of graduation was [blank_start]90[blank_end]% accurate, after 48 it dropped to about [blank_start]70[blank_end]%. in free recall PPS tested within 15 years of graduation were [blank_start]60[blank_end]% accurate, after [blank_start]48[blank_end] this again dropped to about [blank_start]30[blank_end]%.

11[blank_start]Alan[blank_end] [blank_start]Badley[blank_end] concluded in his [blank_start]1966[blank_end] studies of memory coding that STM is [blank_start]coded[blank_end] acoustically and LTM semantically. I STM PPS were more likely to confuse [blank_start]Acoustically[blank_end] similar words with which they had no trouble with in [blank_start]LTM[blank_end]. in LTM PPS were more likely to [blank_start]confuse[blank_end] words that were semantically [blank_start]similar[blank_end] but not those with [blank_start]acoustic[blank_end] similarities with which [blank_start]STM[blank_end] PPS had no trouble.

12To test STM Baddely asked the PPS to recall the word list immediately after hearing it. However psychologists challenge the assertion that 20 minutes is long enough to commit a word list to LTM.

13Other evaluations of Baddely's 1966 study may be:
- ABrandimote et al 1992 found PPS used visual coding when given visual tasks and prevented from rehearsing by having to say 'la la la' before recalling. He suggests we translate visual information int verbal codes.
- BFrost 1972 showed that long term recall was related to visual and semantic catagories. in the same year Rothbart faund evidnece of acoustic coding in LTM. this shows that the coding for LTM can vary accordingvt ocircumstance.
- CGibbet 1974 found that there was a third memory store that acted as an informational mediator between STM and LTM meaning that information that was neither LTM nor STM was stored in the MTM.
- DAlistair 1985 provided evidence of an alternative theory in which all information is temporarily stored in STM and is the divided into long and short-term by semantic or acoustic memorability.
