Questions in this quiz (12)

  1. 1Basement membrane is found between [blank_start]epithelial[blank_end] tissue and [blank_start]connective[blank_end] tissue. It contains two layers: [blank_start]basal[blank_end] lamina and [blank_start]reticular[blank_end] lamina. Its function is to provide the cell and tissue with [blank_start]support[blank_end] and act as a [blank_start]platform[blank_end] for complex signalling.
    1. Aepithelial
    2. Bconnective
    3. Cbasal
    4. Dreticular
    5. Esupport
    6. Fplatform
  2. 2Functions of connective tissue includes: 1.[blank_start]support[blank_end] and connect other tissues
    2. Protection: [blank_start]fibrous[blank_end] capsules and bones protect delicate organs and the skeletal system
    3. [blank_start]Transport[blank_end] of fluid, nutrients, waste and chemical messengers by the form of blood and lymph
    4. [blank_start]Adipose[blank_end] cells store surplus of energy in form of [blank_start]fat[blank_end] and contribute to thermal insulation
    1. Asupport
    2. Bfibrous
    3. CTransport
    4. DAdipose
    5. Efat
  3. 3Embryonic Connective Tissue: First to devvelop- derives from the [blank_start]embryo[blank_end]. Supplies cells for replacement and [blank_start]repair[blank_end] after connective tissue injury.
    1. Arepair
    2. Bembryo
  4. 4[blank_start]Dense[blank_end] connective tissue is reinforced by bundles of [blank_start]fibres[blank_end] providing tensile strength, elasticity and protection.
[blank_start]Loose[blank_end] connective tissue- fibres are loosely organised leaving large [blank_start]spaces[blank_end] in between.
    1. ADense
    2. Bfibres
    3. CLoose
    4. Dspaces
  5. 5Supportive connective tissue includes bone and [blank_start]cartilage[blank_end] providing structure and strength to body and to [blank_start]protect[blank_end] soft tissue.
Distinct cell types and densely packed fibres in a [blank_start]matrix[blank_end] characterise tissues.
In [blank_start]bone[blank_end], matrix is rigid and calcified.
In fluid connective tissue, [blank_start]lymph[blank_end] and [blank_start]blood[blank_end], various specialised cells circulate in watery fluid containing salts, nutrients and dissolved proteins.
    1. Acartilage
    2. Bprotect
    3. Cmatrix
    4. Dbone
    5. Eblood
    6. Flymph
  6. 6Most abundant cell in connective tissue- [blank_start]fibroblast[blank_end]
Second cell in connective tissue proper- [blank_start]fibrocyte[blank_end]
Cells that store lipids as droplets that fill most of cytoplasm- [blank_start]adipocytes[blank_end]
    1. Afibroblast
    2. Bfibrocyte
    3. Cadipocyte
    4. Dfibrocyte
    5. Efibroblast
    6. Fadipocytes
    7. Gadipocytes
    8. Hfibroblast
    9. Ifibrocyte
  7. 7Brown adipocytes- store lipids as [blank_start]many[blank_end] droplets and have [blank_start]high[blank_end] metabolic activity.

White adipocytes- store lipids as [blank_start]single[blank_end] large drop and metabolically [blank_start]less[blank_end] active
    1. Amany
    2. Bhigh
    3. Csingle
    4. Dless
  8. 8Types of fibres
[blank_start]Collagen fiber[blank_end]- made from fibrous protein subunits linked together to from long and straight fibre. Give ligaments and tendons resilience and strength. Hold connective tissue together.
[blank_start]Elastic fiber[blank_end]- contains protein elastin along with glycoproteins and other proteins. Elastin- returns to original shape. Found in skin and elastic ligaments of vertebral column.
[blank_start]Reticular fiber[blank_end]- narrow and in branching network. Found throughout body and most abundant in reticular tissue of soft organs such as liver and spleen. Provide support to functional cells, blood vessels and nerves of the organ.
    1. ACollagen fiber
    2. BElastic fiber
    3. CReticular fiber
  9. 9Adipose tissue consists mostly of fat [blank_start]storage[blank_end] cells with extracellular matrix. Large number of capillaries allow rapid storage of lipid molecules.

[blank_start]White[blank_end] adipose tissue is most abundant. Functions include insulation from cold temperatures. Protects kidneys and cushions back of the eye.

[blank_start]Brown[blank_end] adipose tissue found in neck and clavicular regions. [blank_start]Mitochondria[blank_end] helps efficiency of fast metabolism. Thermogenic- breaks down [blank_start]fats[blank_end], releases metabolic heat.
    1. Astorage
    2. BWhite
    3. CBrown
    4. DMitochondria
    5. Efats
  10. 10Hyaline cartilage- the most common type. Consists of short and dispersed collagen [blank_start]fibres[blank_end]. Smooth, strong, [blank_start]flexible[blank_end]. Found in rib cage and [blank_start]nose[blank_end], covers bones where they meet to form moveable joints.

Fibrocartilage- tough due to thick bundles of collagen [blank_start]fibres[blank_end] dispersed through matrix. Knee and jaw joints are examples of [blank_start]fibrocartilage[blank_end].

Elastic cartilage- contains elastic fibres, collagen and proteoglycans. [blank_start]Rigid[blank_end] support and elasticity. Ear lobe contains elastic cartilage.
