Chapter 4 - The Periodic Table
- The Periodic Table is a classification of all Elements according to there Atomic Number.
- It is comprised of Horizontal Periods and Vertical Groups.
- They are arrange in order of increasing atomic number, electron structure and chemical properties.
-
- These are horizontal rows of elements.
- They are numbered 1 to 7
- Elements from the same period have the same number of electron shells
- Across a period (left to right), Protons and electrons increase by 1 more than the previous element.
- Across a period (left to right), Elements become less metallic and more non- metallic
-
- These are vertical colums of elements.
- There are 8 Groups nubmered 1 to 7 and a final group 0
- Each element in a group has the same number of electrons in its outer shell. For elements in groups 1 to 7 the electron number is the same as the group number.
- The common oxidation number of element
