Mummification Process ~ Quiz Questions

Step One

• Wash the body with water from the Nile River.

Step Two

• Make a cut in the side and remove the stomach, liver, lungs and intestines.

Step 3

• Pull the brain out through the nose. Leave the heart in.

Step Four

• Cover the body with Natron(Salt) for 40 days to dry it out. Wash the body with water from the Nile again.

Step Five

• Cover the body oils to help it move.

Step Six

• Stuff the body with dry materials to make it look life-like.

Step Seven ~ Wrapping

• 1. Head and neck.
• 2. Fingers and toes separately.
• 3. Arms and legs are wrapped separately.
• 4. Wrap the stomach. Place amulet by the heart.
• 5. Priests read spells aloud while mummy is being wrapped.
• 6. Arms and legs are tied together.
• 7. A copy of the Book of the Dead is placed between the hands.

Step Eight

• Another layer of linen if wrapped around the body head to toe.

Step Nine

• A cloth is placed over the body with a picture of Osiris on it.

Step Ten ~ Last Step

• The body is placed in the coffin.
