  1. AS energy issues revision

    • Energy resources
    • Global energy distribution
    • Impacts of energy production
    • Sustainable energy
    • Managing energy Case studies
  2. Types of energy

    • Primary energy is released from a direct source- when primary energy is converted into a different form it becomes secondary energy
    • Renewable resources
    • A source is renewable if it can be replenished at a similar rate to which it's used. Renewable resources are also known as flow resources. There's a constant energy transfer occurring, which if balanced will be sustainable. Tidal energy, wind energy and solar power are all renewable resources because you can't use them.
    • Non renewable resources
    • They can run out and can't be replaced in the foreseeable future. They're also known as stock resources as the planet has a limited stock which when used up won't be replaced. Fossil fuels and nuclear energy is non renewable.
  3. Energy resources

    • Over 70% of UK energy is provided by oil and gas.
    • Since the 1970s the consumption of oil increased due to the discovery of north sea in 1969 and growing demand for transport fuel.
    • Natural gas has increased by 85% since 1990
    • Despite having large reserves coal has fallen by 40% due to closure mines and the move to less polluting oil and gas.
    • Renewable resources has increased as the government aims to to move towards a more sustainable energy supply.
