C2 Revision
Slides in this set (5)
-
- 1) Atoms are a type of tiny particle
- 2) They're so small you can't see them directly with your eyes
- 3) All matter is made up of atoms
- 4) There are around 121 different types of atoms
- 5) Each element contains a different type of atom
- 1) An element is a substance that contains only one certain type of atom
- 2) Quite a lot of everyday substances are elements.
- 3) All of these elements have different properties
- 4) Each element has it's own name like CO2 or O2
-
- 1) The periodic table shows all the elements we have discovered
- 2) The first version of the table was put together by Medeleev
- 3) The vertical columns are called groups
- 4) The horizontal roads are called periods
- 5) If you know the properties of one element, you can predict the properties of other ones in that group.
- 1) In a chemical reaction, elements combine to form new substances
- 2) An element that combines with other ones easily is called reactive
- 3) The noble gasses or group "0", is the least reactive
- 4) You can use the periodic table to predict patterns in chemical reactions
-
- 1) When two or more atoms join together, a molecule is made
- 2) Compounds are formed when atoms from different elements join together like CO2 (Carbon and Oxygen= Carbon Dioxide)
- 1) A chemical reaction involves chemicals combining together or splitting apart
- 2) When a new compound is synthesised (Made), elements combine
- 3) Compounds formed from elements have usually no resemblance and have nothing in common.2
